What to do on Solomons Island – Part 2
Happy December! In October I wrote how friends and family were asking “what do people do there?”, when we came to Solomons Island. I discussed some of the outdoor activities which are popular here during the warmer months. This month, I was going to introduce you to some of the indoor places of interest on and around the island, however, this being December, I would be remiss if I did not tell you all there is to do this month around the holidays. Calvert County in general and Solomons specifically is a great place to visit during this festive season.
First up, on the island is the Solomons Christmas Walk, December 10th! First, we have the light. The Solomons Riverwalk, along with many businesses and residences are all lit up for the season. Come down for the day and tour our lit streets. Don’t forget to vote for your favorites on the Solomons Business Association Facebook page. Voting goes through December 19th. Our Gazebo Christmas Tree is up and lit, thanks to some sailors from PAX River. The entertainment starts at 4pm with roving carolers beginning right here at the Solomons Victorian Inn. We will open our house to visitors and continue till about 7pm. Stop by for a fresh chocolate chip cookie!
The music continues at the Gazebo with singing, dancing, and Santa photos. All leading up to the Solomons Fire Department’s parade at 5pm and the lighted boat parade at 6:15pm. Several businesses on the island will be open with specials for those who stop by, including FREE admission at the Calvert Marine Museum from 6p to 9p. Music and refreshments will be featured at the museum as well.
Around Calvert County, there are additional celebrations and events for the whole family. Right up the road is the Annmarie Sculpture Garden with their tremendous Garden in Lights show. While advance tickets are required, the lights will be on through January 1. Don’t miss the Train Garden as well.
Santa comes to the Imaginarium Playspace, up the street with Holiday fun for the kids including equipment play, photos and visit with Santa, free hot chocolate bar and a craft.
No Thyme to Cook, also just around the corner, will hold several special events this month. Check out the Chocolate and Wine Pairing, the Boat Parade watch party, Creating a Yule log and the Feast of Seven Fishes.
